History of Danesfield Lodge...

Danesfield Lodge was consecrated at 333 Banbury Road, Oxford on 30th October 1973 by the Right Honourable The Lord Rathcreedan, Provincial Grand Master for Oxfordshire.

It was formed to accommodate the local Masons and RAF Masons at Danesfield House. The property had been purchased by the Ministry of Defence in 1948 and named Royal Air Force Medmenham. It became the home of RAF Signals Command. Danesfield House had by then become the Officer's Mess, and hence was the name suggested for the new Lodge.

The Consecration was attended by 34 Consecrating Officers and Founders of which 17 were Past Masters. There were an additional 25 Reigning Masters, 51 Past Masters of other Lodges in and around the Province of Oxfordshire, together with 52 Master Masons.

There were 21 members initially, of which six were Past Masters. Following the consecration W.Bro David George Winborn was Installed as the First Master and he appointed Bro. John Edward Ward as Senior Warden and W. Bro. Ray F. Sargeant as Junior Warden.
